Let's set up your Silent Shield


Takes about three minutes. No app to download, everything happens in your browser.

First: is NFC on?

  • iPhone

    Nothing to do — NFC is always on for iPhone 7 and newer. Older iPhones can't read these shields.

  • Android

    NFC is often switched off by default. Open Settings, search for NFC, and turn it on.

    The exact path varies by manufacturer — Samsung puts it under Connections, Pixel under Connected devices. Searching "NFC" in Settings finds it on any phone.

Now tap your shield

Hold the top of your phone against the shield and move it slowly until your phone reacts. A notification slides down — tap it, and setup opens.

Still nothing? Take your phone case off and try again. Thick and metal cases block the signal.

Shield won't scan?

Take your phone case off.

Thick or metal cases block NFC. This is the most common cause by far.

Android: Check that NFC is on.

Settings → Connections → NFC. Most phones have it on by default, but not all.

Move slowly across the shield.

Hold the top edge of your phone against it and move gradually rather than holding it still. The antenna is a small target.

Still nothing?

Try a different phone to rule out the device. If it won't scan on any phone, email us at support@alliance3dprints.com and we'll troubleshoot it or send a replacement.

Step 1

Your shield is detected

You'll see "NFC Detected" and your Shield ID. Tap Activate My Silent Shield to begin.

Step 2

Choose a category and add basics

Pick the category that fits — Child Safety, Autism / Nonverbal, Medical Alert, Senior Safety, and several others. Then add a name, date of birth, and optionally a photo.

A photo is worth adding for children and seniors. Anyone who scans the shield can see it.

Step 4

The two fields that matter most

Critical Notes is what someone reads in the first five seconds. "Nonverbal. May not respond to name. Seizure risk."

Emergency Instructions is what they should do. "Call parent immediately. Keep calm. Do not restrain during seizure."

Keep both short. Responders scan — they don't read.

Step 5

Create your PIN

Four to ten characters, letters or numbers. Your PIN protects editing, not viewing — in an emergency, nobody should need a password to help.

Write it down somewhere safe.

Step 6

Claim your shield

After activating, you'll be asked to claim the shield to an email address. This is optional but worth doing — it creates your dashboard, lets you manage multiple shields in one place, and enables scan alerts if you want them later.
